An Infrastructure for Metropolitan Mobility
A symbol of the new collective and decarbonized mobility, the bus depot is part of an evolving urban context. This project aims to provide a modern and functional infrastructure, fulfilling a public utility mission. The architecture directly reflects its functions: the maintenance workshop stands out with its 11 serial bays, while the operations and administration building fully embraces its role as a contemporary office space.
Architectural Choices
Although the program aligns with the logic of a productive city, the architecture breaks away from a purely industrial vocabulary to offer a more harmonious vision. It features a coherent composition and cross-cutting elements, including:
Furthermore, located on the right bank of the Garonne River, the depot establishes a strong dialogue with the surrounding landscape. In this area of industrial transition, the project aims to rewild the riverbanks, enhance public space, and reconcile different modes of mobility while promoting the integration of biodiversity.
Environmental Goals
Designed as a new-generation industrial facility, the bus depot aligns with the French National Low Carbon Strategy. Wood—a bio-based, carbon-storing material—is a key element in its construction (used for the framework and insulation). Adopting a low-tech bioclimatic approach, the project favors passive systems: thermal resistance, natural ventilation, solar protection, and the use of greenery combined with white roofs. These choices aim to regulate the building’s temperature, improve thermal inertia, and support a sustainable environment. Climbing plants are integrated into the façades, creating a beneficial exchange between architecture and biodiversity while tempering exposed surfaces.
