On the occasion of the National Architecture Days organized by the Order of Architects, the AIA Life Designers teams wished to highlight an everyday architecture that heals: the hospital.
Ten years after its design, the IHU Méditerranée Infection in Marseille is a place open to everyone, open to the city, providing care while supporting cutting-edge research into infectious diseases.

Project overview — program & building performance :
- 13,900 m² GFA, including 8,500 m² dedicated to research and 3,300 m² to clinical care (75 inpatient beds, including 25 very high-level isolation beds [BSL-3], plus 13 day-hospital beds);
- Laboratories, including a high-security BSL-3 lab, teaching facilities (150-seat lecture hall, 8 classrooms), and a biobank;
- Design : AIA Life Designers (with Intens-Cité); Engineering: AIA Engineering; Environmental consulting: AIA Environment;
- Environmental target : BREEAM Healthcare – Very Good;
- Schedule : design competition in 2012, completion in 2016;
- Cost : €49 million excl. VAT.
