In Quimper, the Clinique Mutualiste de Bretagne Occidentale – also known as HGO (Hospi Grand Ouest) – officially opened its doors to patients on July 4, 2022. Located on an 11-hectare site, it brings together the Saint-Michel Sainte-Anne Clinic and the Quimper Sud Clinic, complemented by a medical imaging center and a medical practice building. These facilities collectively cover 21,500 m² of operational space. The clinic features 200 beds and spaces, 18 operating rooms, and an emergency care department, with the capacity to treat over 30,000 patients annually.
The architectural design was entrusted to AIA Life Designers by project owner HGO. The project aims to deliver an architectural approach that prioritizes the well-being of both staff and patients through user-friendly design and hotel-like comfort for everyone. To achieve this, the clinic was developed in close collaboration with the healthcare professionals who would be working there, allowing them to test the equipment during construction to ensure its practicality and effectiveness.
In terms of its layout, the new clinic is harmoniously integrated into the broader landscape. Overlooking the RN 165 dual carriageway connecting Nantes and Brest, the HGO Clinic is situated near the wooded valley of the Odet River (the Stangala) and the Gourvily commercial area. It is easily accessible from the RN165, served by public buses, and features both parking areas and a drop-off zone.
