On Friday, March 15, the opening ceremony of the new terminal at Roland Garros Airport in La Réunion took place, marking the world’s first large-scale bioclimatic terminal in a tropical environment. The design, by the consortium of AIA Life Designers, relies on the principle of natural ventilation using the trade winds unique to La Réunion. The result is an architecture shaped by a depressional canyon, featuring spectacular timber structures where wood is omnipresent, complemented by lush natural vegetation.
During the speeches, these architectural and environmental choices, the result of close collaboration with the project management teams, were highly praised by Mrs. Claire Dreyfus-Cloarec, President of the Supervisory Board, Mr. Guillaume BRANLAT, President of the Executive Board, @Richard Nirlo, Mayor of Sainte-Marie, Mrs. Huguette Bello, President of the Réunion Region, Mr. Slawomir Tokarski, representative of the European Commission, and Mr. Jérôme Filippini, Prefect of La Réunion, as well as by the 300 guests in attendance.
Two and a half years of relentless work and an investment of 65 million euros (financed 60% by the State, the Réunion Region, and the European Union under the FEDER-FSE+ Réunion program). This iconic project embodies the commitment of Roland Garros Airport in La Réunion to innovation and territorial development.
Congratulations to the teams, co-contractors, subcontractors, and companies who contributed so much to this achievement.
