[PROJECT] #Industry,The symbolic foundation stone for the modernization works of the Pontmain waste recovery plant was laid this Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

Construction work began in autumn 2025 and is expected to continue until the end of 2029.
A successful ceremony followed by a site visit took place in the presence of, among others, Olivier Richefou, President of the Departmental Council, David Lamy from Suez, Frédéric Lebreton from AIA Life Designers, and other guests.

The architectural modernization of the Pontmain Energy Recovery Facility, which enables the energy recovery of all residual household waste collected throughout the Mayenne department, represents a major milestone for the region. It reflects both the continuity of public service operations and the ambition to strengthen the site’s environmental and energy performance.

As part of a broader transformation project, the program notably includes replacing the historic treatment line with a new L1 bis line, while also modernizing the existing facilities. The objective is to transform the Energy Recovery Facility into a true “resource factory” serving local, sustainable, and circular energy production.

The plant has the capacity to process 63,000 tonnes of waste per year, corresponding to household waste generated by approximately 120,000 residents.

Within this context of profound transformation — carried out without interrupting operations and under strict environmental requirements — the architectural and landscape project aims to redefine the site by closely integrating industrial processes, spatial quality, and harmonious insertion into the surrounding agricultural landscape.
