On Friday, April 25, AIA Life Designers and all project stakeholders (client, design team, contractors…) officially launched, during a friendly event, the transformation works of the Ville-Évrard Public Mental Health Facility (EPSM), located at the heart of a historic, tree-filled estate spanning over 100 hectares. This is one of the largest psychiatric hospital complexes in the Île-de-France region and a key site in the history of psychiatry.
A project at the crossroads of public health, urban planning, and heritage.
More than a simple rehabilitation, this is an ambitious redesign of the site :
A respectful dialogue between the renovated historic buildings and contemporary new constructions, a layout organized around key landscape axes: the “Traverse Verte” (east-west axis) and the Central Park, the true heart of the project, a clear and functional layout of healthcare spaces, designed for patients, caregivers, and families. care_pathways
Project objectives :
– Address the needs of a densely populated area (over 1.2 million residents across 33 municipalities in Seine-Saint-Denis),
– Rethink the psychiatric hospital as a living space, connected to the city and its environment,
– Create a therapeutic setting that is functional, compassionate, and conducive to psychosocial rehabilitation. The program includes :
→ 9,700 m² of new construction and 6,000 m² of renovated space,
→ 7,190 m² of landscaped gardens,
→ 160 adult psychiatric care beds,
→ Architecture focused on care, dignity, and sustainability:
• gentle materials, abundant vegetation, clear spatial orientation,
• energy-efficient renovation of existing buildings,
• consideration of stress resilience, sensory diversity, and freedom of movement in spatial design.
A project designed by AIA Life Designers, in collaboration with : – 2BDM Architectes (heritage architecture), – BASE Paysagiste (urban and landscape design), – AIA Environnement (environmental consulting), – AIA_Engineering (all trades engineering), – Fabrice Bougon (cost control), – GAMBA Acoustique (GAMBA Group) – All working toward the transformation of a major institution and a modern vision of psychiatric care.
