The new Nort-sur-Erdre college sits at the entrance of the town and embodies a true landmark. Its forward façade faces a public square and is linked to the Cap Nort facility, another crucial equipment of a developing neighbourhood. The conference room ties the public spaces together. The establishment is a model of transparency, with a hall and a library open onto the public space. The college seemingly protects its users from the outside and provides them with a school yard overlooking the eastern plain. The work spaces are a mix of meeting and learning areas. They are innovative and open to new educational practices that include the digital world. The project offers an effective architecture, while keeping in mind a certain simplicity when it comes to the technical aspects, in order to reduce costs and maintenance operations. Enshrined in an efficient environmental approach, the project will be NF HQE (French standard for high environmental quality) certified for office buildings (“Very Good”), a Biosource and Low consumption building label awarded by Effinergie. The college was also shortlisted in the framework of a call for tender E + C launched by Ademe (Agency for environment and energy control) and Dreal (Regional directorate for environment, planning and housing) in order to prepare for the future thermal regulation in 2020.
